For a family residence permit (aile ikamet izni) in Türkiye, the Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of Migration Management (İl Göç İdaresi Müdürlüğü) asks for the original of the notarised Turkish translation of the marriage certificate at the first application. In Ireland, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Authentication and Apostilles Section, legalises birth and marriage certificates only when they are originals issued by the Irish General Register Office. The Tekirdağ item does not mention an apostille on the marriage certificate. The quoted texts do not settle this, so confirm it with the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management that receives your application.

The Irish step

Check that your certificate comes from the General Register Office. If your file includes an Irish divorce decree or a change of name by Deed Poll, it must be dated and stamped by the Court Registrar or bear the court seal. If a notary or solicitor certifies a copy as true, they must state that they personally saw the original. DFAT notes that a document may need to be notarised by a notary public before it can be authenticated or apostilled.

If you live abroad, you can apply by post to the DFAT Authentication and Apostilles Section in Ireland. Walk-in and drop-off services exist in Dublin and Cork. Irish embassies and consulates cannot issue apostilles. DFAT puts physical stamps on physical documents and offers no digital service, so the paper certificate itself carries the apostille.

The Turkish step

When applying, you must show that you are a spouse, a minor child or a dependent child of the sponsor, as YUKK Article 35(3)(a) requires. Under YUKK Article 37(1), where there is reasonable suspicion, the governorship investigates whether the marriage was made solely to obtain a residence permit.

For children, the Antalya Provincial Directorate of Migration Management lists a birth certificate for applicants under 18 with an apostille and a notarised Turkish translation. It lists a consent letter (muvafakatname) for under 18s on the same terms. The implementing regulation, Article 30(4), requires consent from a parent outside Türkiye who shares custody.

We make the Turkish translation in Türkiye through translators sworn before a Turkish notary (yeminli tercüman), and a Turkish notary notarises it, as these directorate lists require. We do not issue the apostille; DFAT does. The directorate that receives your file decides whether it is accepted.
